2 Weeks Gateway to Art School Course Portfolio and sketchbook building in fine art or textile design

Course Schedule

Day 1: Research Finding a visual identity through online and book research and how to create a Mind Maps. 10:00 - 12:30: Introduction to the course. Learn research techniques using online resources, books, and mind maps. Create a mind map on a chosen art topic. 2:00 - 4:30: Continue research on chosen topics, utilizing online databases and art books. Discuss findings and share mind maps with the group. How to build your sketch book the correct way with you research.

Day 2: Gallery Visits Art District and Drawing in 751 Design District 10:00 - 12:30: Visit the 798 Art District. Take notes and photos of inspiring artworks and installations and meet & talk to gallery owners. 2:00 - 4:30: Head to the 751 Design District for an outdoor drawing session. Focus on capturing the essence of the design environment and the old industry sites.baca.org.cn/en/short-courses/

Day 3: Experimenting in Drawing Using Material Surfaces and Scale 10:00 - 12:30: Introduction to various drawing materials and surfaces. Experiment with different scales, textures and mark making. 2:00 - 4:30: Create a series of experimental drawings using the new materials and techniques. Share and discuss outcomes with the group.

Day 4: Museum Visits & Art History Research 10:00 - 12:30: Visit a local museum. Study historical artworks and take detailed notes on techniques and contexts. 2:00 - 4:30: Conduct art history research on a specific movement or artist from the museum visit. Prepare a short presentation for the next day.

Day 5: UAL Online Lecture and Introduction to Printmaking 10:00 - 12:30: Attend an online lecture from a University of the Arts London (UAL) representative. Participate in a Q&A session about art school applications and programs. 2:00 - 4:30: Introduction to basic printmaking techniques. Create simple prints using lino or mono printing methods.

Day 6: Pathway Printmaking - Fine Art Print on Paper or Textile Using Fabrics 10:00 - 12:30: Choose a printmaking pathway: fine art on paper or textile prints using fabrics. Begin developing a series of prints. 2:00 - 4:30: Continue working on your prints. Experiment with different designs and techniques.

Day 7: Refinement of Personal Project 10:00 - 12:30: Review and select the most successful pieces from your printmaking and drawing experiments. Day 8: Finalizing Outcome 10:00 - 12:30: Continue working on final pieces. Ensure all details are perfected. 2:00 - 4:30: Work on Final Pieces

Day 9: Portfolio and Illustration Design Skills 10:00 - 12:30: Introduction to portfolio creation. Learn how to photograph and present your work professionally. 2:00 - 4:30: Work on designing your portfolio, including illustrations and text descriptions.

Day 10: Presentation and Reflection 10:00 - 12:30: Finalize all work for presentation. Ensure everything is organized and polished. 2:00 - 4:30: Present your portfolio and selected works to the group. Engage in a discussion and receive feedback. Reflect on the entire 10-day experience and write a comprehensive journal entry on your growth, challenges, and next steps in your artistic journey.
